Reid Thompson Cañas (they/elle) is a doctoral student in Counseling Psychology at the University of Oregon. They were born in Minneapolis, MN, and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Women and Gender Studies from St. Catherine University. After completing their undergraduate education, Reid engaged in human rights work in El Salvador for six years and returned to the United States to pursue a PhD at the University of Oregon.
Reid’s research focuses on mental health outcomes and risk and resilience behaviors of queer, trans, and gender nonconforming populations in Latin America. They also currently provide therapy and assessment services to individuals and families in the Eugene/Springfield area through the Child and Family Center, Centro Latino Americano, and the Comprehensive Diagnostic Assessment Clinic. Reid joined the Center for the Prevention of Abuse and Neglect and 90by30 in June 2022 as a Research Assistant.
